A graduate of Tama art University, Abe puts old paintings to good use as interstitial layers stuck between bits of plastic, all painted white. Some are torn apart and then put back together while other paintings are added for good measure. As it happens Yusuke is a fan of monsters and you occasionally catch a glimpse of one lurking beneath the surface, peaking through the white mastic of hot glue. His paintings bare the faintest trace of Gutai yet they’re free of any ideological struggle. Each canvas stands alone, practical and purposeful, while at the same time collectively create a moment and expression purely for the pleasure of viewing. Abe carries with him a zine of each painting in its former glory, something more playful and thoughtful as artistic ‘happenings’ uncovering a deeper puzzle: Yu-Gi-Oh! meets Kazuo-Shiraga!
