For this exhibition we basically forbid visitors from entering the space, viewing works from outside through the gallery window. Visitors will see the changes in stacked paper rolls, which are works in themselves, as they distort and change over time. This project gives an overview of the struggle between “exhibition” and the act of “preservation / protection”.

Hiroko Komatsu「自己中毒啓発」

We are pleased to present error CS0246, a series of solo exhibitions by Hiroko Komatsu, Yu Shinoda (Jan 28-Feb 09) and Osamu Kanemura (Feb 11-23).
　The COVID-19 Coronavirus has brought about major changes to our daily lives with no end in sight. Walls have popped-up to avoid physical contact as a precautionary measure against infection, that hark back to a globalism of old that advocated borderless-ness and sought speed. Restrictions, avoiding enclosed spaces and large groups, are being imposed throughout the city while strengthening measures to control infection. Working from home, on the other hand, has blurred the traditional divide between private/public by turning rooms at home into offices. Yet a somewhat contradictory space has also been created, encouraging outdoor activities that aid economic growth.
　These restrictions, unlikely to fully disappear, will continue to create ambiguities in society and contradictions in our behaviour. If this is the case, then we need to rethink a post-pandemic art space within all of this. The contrast between exhibition’ and ‘conservation’, and the contradictory relationship they create, may be highlighted through the perspective of ‘restriction’ and ‘ambiguity’. Post-pandemic production will also transform the way the artist works, inevitably giving different codes to the work they produce.
　This project is an attempt to rethink the nature of the exhibition and the possibilities that making work in this post-pandemic period will bring, rethinking aspects that have not been dealt with until now.
